Brabourne Stadium Mumbai Located right in the heart of the financial capital of India - Mumbai, and a stone's throw away from the famous Marine Drive, is the Brabourne Stadium. It is owned by the prestigious Cricket Club of India, which is one of the oldest clubs in the country and has a lot of history attached to it.

Commissioned for construction in 1936, the stadium was completed in a record 18 months and named after Lord Brabourne, the then Governor of Bombay.

One of the foremost grounds in India to host a Test match, the Brabourne Stadium was a regular host of first-class matches in Mumbai until the Mumbai Cricket Association built the Wankhede Stadium and moved all the matches there.

India had a very favourable Test record at the Brabourne Stadium before it was knocked off the international Test venues list; they won four and lost only two of their 17 Test matches here.

Among the memorable performances at this venue are India's Test match victories against Pakistan (1952-53) and Australia (1964-65). What's more, India actually beat New Zealand in a Test match for the very first time at this venue in 1955-56.

The home of several legendary cricketers, the Brabourne Stadium has witnessed several remarkable performances from the likes of Vijay Hazare, Vijay Merchant, Vinoo Mankad and Sunil Gavaskar, to mention a few. It also hosted sixteen Ranji Trophy finals - fourteen of them featuring Mumbai, all of them ending in a victory for the home team.

After being off the international map for a few years, the Brabourne Stadium is now back on the scene; it hosted a few games of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2006 and hosted India's first Twenty20 International at home in 2007. It will also be hosting a Test match on Sri Lanka's tour of India in 2009 and has been earmarked to host the home games of the Mumbai Indians - the Mumbai franchise of the Indian Premier League.
